University Animal Hospital

I wanted to share my experience because, looking back, I really wish we had gotten a second opinion sooner. We took our dog here while living in Norman, and unfortunately we consistently felt that the care was very expensive and that some of the recommendations ended up being unnecessary. During one visit, bloodwork showed that one of Charlie’s liver values was slightly elevated. Even though we had not brought him in for a liver-related issue and he was a young puppy at the time, we were told there was concern about his liver and were given medication for it. We trusted their recommendation and gave him the medication. After getting a second opinion from another veterinarian, we were told that Charlie did not have a liver problem, that a mildly elevated value like his can be seen in growing puppies, and that the medication was not something he needed or something that would have addressed an underlying problem anyway. That experience was especially frustrating because we had been worried that something was wrong with our puppy when, according to the second vet, there wasn’t. We also had concerns about the way Charlie’s weight was handled. We were told he was overweight and encouraged to switch him to diet food even though he was only around a year old, active, and visibly very lean. Since leaving this practice, we have not received the same concerns about his weight from other veterinary professionals. Cost was another major issue for us. Visits and treatments regularly felt very expensive, and Charlie’s neuter was also much more expensive than we expected. I understand that veterinarians can have different medical opinions, but after our experience and getting a second veterinary opinion, I personally would not return. I would strongly encourage other pet owners to ask questions about recommendations, understand why medications are being prescribed, and consider getting a second opinion before starting treatment if something doesn’t seem right.

My pet was treated with care and attention. The staff kept me informed of progress and was very friendly.

All of the staff and physicians in this office are incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and caring of my precious dog. I would recommend them to everyone who is looking for a Veterinary office. Thank you!

I was impressed by how easily the Vet tech gave Chipper his shot. She seemed very skilled.

The staff (and I mean ALL the staff) is so sweet and helpful. Even when they are busy they make sure you are not forgotten. Ive been taking my animals here for a while now and their care has been amazing. I would recommend this place heavily, especially Dr. Moser (the only veterinarian I’ve had my dogs see so I’m pretty biased) but she has been so kind and helpful.
